Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan
Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History, Sawai Madhopur, a Western Regional centre of National Museum of Natural History, New Delhi under Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of India has been inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance (Expenditure and Financial Services), Shri. Namo Narayan Meena, Govt. Of India on 1st March 2014 and opened its wings to general public with Galleries on “Biodiversity of Rajasthan”, “Biodiversity of Western Ghats”, Flora & Fauna of Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve” and Corridor for general fauna of the Country along with Library, Eco-Theatre and Auditorium. The foundation stone of the museum building was laid down on 23 December 2007 by the Vice President of India, Shri. Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
This institution is devoted to non-formal environmental education among the different masses of the society through its thematic galleries, exhibitions, campus’s biodiversity park, educational programmes/activities (both in-house and outreach) to all masses of the society etc.
Since then, Rajiv Gandhi regional museum of Natural History, Sawai Madhopur developed few more thematic galleries and exhibitions on “Bird diversity in Rajasthan”, “Adaptation in desert flora and fauna”, “Creativity on nature by younger generation”, “Mammalian series”, “Textiles of India”, “Heritage sites of India”, “Seeds of India”, “Tribes of India”, “Water conservation”, “Plastic Pollution” and “Scientific illustrations of Biological specimens” towards enhance the knowledge of the visitors.
