National Museum of Natural History

Exhibits are the primary learning resources in any Museum and RMNH, Mysore has three permanent exhibit galleries, a temporary exhibition hall, a discovery centre, an auditorium for film shows along with its lush green environs that surrounds it working as live laboratories for the public. 

1. The Galleries: Biological Diversity 
   RMNH Mysore is cradled in the region of the biologically rich Western Ghats territory in its vicinity.  The IUCN declared hot spot of diversity is the focus of the gallery with an emphasis on the interrelationship of its elements and the adaptations that sustains its organisums.  The diverse ecosystems of tropical rainforests, wetlands, mangroves and marine ecosystems are on display. 
   
   
2. The Galleries: Life through the Ages 
   Millions of years of evolution, spread across the various eras, periods and epochs have culminated in the present day forms of our great diversity.  The gallery gives a quick glance at the important milestones of the geological time scale ending with the modern man. It is a travel through time, and stand face to face with life size stegosaurus that once roamed the Indian plateaus. 
   
   
3. The Galleries: Nature’s Network 
   The importance of nature, its delicate network and the awareness to conserve the same can only be imbibed through an understanding of the delicate nature of its interrelationships.  The harmonious lifestyle adopted by the tribal populations, the perils and problems of its ecosystems and wonders of its unique inhabitants are on display. 
   
   
4. Discovery centre 
   Learning can be fun…! The Discovery centre beckons with its innovative invitation to touch, feel and play providing opportunities for visitors, especially children, to immerse in creative activities.…. Open those discovery boxes,…. toss the toys,…solve that jigsaw puzzle, or ….perform on that stage. ….Make a health card using the resources of weighing balance, height scale, …..become an “young scientists” in a small laboratory …. dig for a valuable find in a“sand pit” …..read through useful books …or stare at the 30 feet long skeleton of a Bryde’s whale (Balaenoptera edeni) for the comparison of size and structure…. 
   
   
5. Temporary Exhibitions 
   Change is inevitable ….and we keep changing at regular intervals in a temporary exhibition hall with exhibitions on various themes of contemporary interest.  A subject of your interest could be next on display.
